PROJECTS

Our club is helping with this world-wide Kiwanis service project called ELIMINATE.  Kiwanis International and UNICEF are teaming up to stop maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT).  MNT kills one baby every nine seconds and the effects are excruciating - tiny newborns suffer repeated painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.  There is little hope for survival.  But MNT is preventable.  Just three doses of a 60-cent immunization protect mothers, who then pass the immunity on to their future babies.  UNICEF and Kiwanis have already eliminated MNT in 24 countries in the past several years. 16 countries still remain at risk as of August 2017.  Mothers in these countries have little or no access to health care - either because they are poor, live in remote areas, or are caught in humanitarian emergencies.  More than 100 million mothers need to be immunized.  The goal of the world-wide Kiwanis project is to raise $110 million dollars.  Pledged funds are still being collected.

The Coldwater Kiwanis Club is a very active service club and has earned recognition as a "distinguished club" from Kiwanis International for several years.  The Coldwater Club is part of the Ohio District.  Our club meets each Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Briarwood Village.  The Coldwater Kiwanis Family also includes the K-Kids (elementary), the Builders Club (middle school), the Key Club (high school),  and the Mercer County AKtion Club (adults with special needs).
